Peterson .300 WSM brass cases are American-made, Match-Grade components designed for precision handloading of the .300 Winchester Short Magnum cartridge. The beltless, rimless WSM design combines substantial powder capacity with an overall length suitable for many short-action rifles. Peterson added .300 WSM brass to its regular product range in February 2026. The cases are manufactured in the USA in small production lots using modern forming and quality-control processes. Every Peterson case undergoes automated and manual inspection to minimize variations in dimensions, internal capacity and wall thickness.

The published data show that the internal capacity of the first production lots remained within a narrow range of 79.3–79.5 grains of water. They also demonstrate that AMP annealing codes and certain dimensions may vary between production lots.
Peterson EZ-Seat™ Coating
Current-production Peterson cases receive the company’s proprietary EZ-Seat™ Coating. It is an anti-tarnish treatment with dry-lubricant properties, applied to both the exterior of the case and the inside of the neck.
According to Peterson’s testing, the coating:
- reduces the force required to seat a bullet,
- improves consistency of bullet seating and pull force,
- reduces the risk of bullet-jacket deformation,
- protects the brass against tarnishing,
- improves the out-of-box loading experience,
- reduces the need for neck brushing, lubrication, tumbling or mandrel preparation before the first firing.
The coating is primarily intended to improve the first loading and firing. After firing, carbon fouling naturally provides lubrication inside the case neck.

Magnum Performance in a Short-Action Format
The .300 WSM was designed as a compact .30-caliber magnum cartridge. According to Peterson, it can provide performance similar to the .300 Winchester Magnum in a shorter and lighter rifle package. Actual velocity, energy and recoil depend on barrel length, rifle weight, bullet selection and the individual load.
Beltless Case Design
The .300 WSM headspaces on its shoulder rather than on a magnum belt. Many precision reloaders value this design because it allows straightforward control of shoulder setback during resizing and good chamber fit after the brass has been fire-formed.
Strong and Intentionally Tight Primer Pockets
Peterson intentionally manufactures new primer pockets slightly tight. The company explains that most initial primer-pocket expansion occurs during the first firing. Starting with a tighter pocket is intended to provide proper primer retention over a greater number of loading cycles.

Important Limitations
The standard maximum cartridge overall length of 2.860 inches may limit how far very long and heavy bullets can be seated out when using factory short-action magazines. Seating a long bullet deeper into the case reduces usable internal capacity.
Custom rifles may use longer magazines, actions or chambers that permit a greater cartridge overall length. These configurations must be individually matched and may exceed the SAAMI standard. The chamber, distance to the rifling and available magazine length should always be measured before developing a load.
Preparing New Cases
For new Peterson brass, the manufacturer recommends visual inspection and only a light chamfer and deburr of the case mouth. Peterson does not recommend unnecessarily full-length sizing new cases because additional working of the brass may reduce case life.
Before the first loading:
- Check the lot number against Peterson’s ballistician data.
- Inspect the length and case mouth of every case.
- Apply a very light chamfer and deburr if required.
- Confirm that an empty case chambers freely in the intended rifle.

Peterson cases may have a different internal capacity from Winchester, Hornady, Lapua or ADG brass. A maximum load developed in another manufacturer’s case must not be transferred directly. Load development should be restarted using verified starting data.
