Description
Berger .22 Cal 60 gr FB Varmint is a lightweight, hollow-point flat-base bullet purpose-built for small-game and predator hunting. Weighing 60 gr (3.89 g) and measuring just 0.810″ long, it fully stabilises in 1-in-12″ twist barrels yet delivers an unusually high G1 BC of 0.271—giving a very flat trajectory out to roughly 400 m. Its thin J4® Precision Jacket holds bench-rest concentricity, while the large hollow-point produces instant, “explosive” fragmentation on target.
Key Features
| Feature | Benefit |
|---|---|
| Flat base & tangent ogive | Short overall length; sub-MOA accuracy even from standard .223 Rem barrels with 1-in-12″ twists. |
| Large hollow-point | Rapid, violent expansion with minimal ricochet risk—ideal for foxes, woodchucks, coyotes. |
| Thin J4® jacket | Concentricity held to ±0.0003″; consistent velocities and tiny groups without sorting. |
| High muzzle velocity | 3 300–3 800 fps from .223 Rem, .22-250 or .220 Swift for a laser-flat arc and low wind drift. |
| Match-grade construction | Same manufacturing standards as Berger Target bullets—reliable lot-to-lot uniformity. |

Why Choose This Bullet?
-
Laser-flat trajectory – at ~3 650 fps from a .22-250, drop at 300 m is barely 15 cm, simplifying hold-overs on small targets.
-
Explosive yet pelt-friendly – thin jacket and wide meplat limit exit wounds, keeping hides marketable.
-
Compatible with classic rifles – stabilises perfectly in older .222/.223 barrels with slower twists.
-
Quick load development – tangent ogive forgives small seating-depth changes; uniform cores mean no weight sorting.
Typical Applications
-
Population control: prairie dogs, groundhogs, rabbits, foxes, coyotes—effective to roughly 400 m.
-
Recreational and benchrest shooting at short to mid-range where sub-0.5 MOA groups are desired.
-
High-velocity handloads in .223 Rem, .22-250 Rem, .220 Swift and similar cartridges when maximum speed and accuracy are required.
