At Peterson Cartridge Co, we are dedicated to delivering Match-Grade Brass that exceeds industry standards, offering our customers increased reloads per casing.
In a recent endeavor, our ballistician embarked on a unique experiment prompted by a bit of free time. Curious about the longevity of our .308 Winchester casings, he set out to push their limits. Loading five casings to SAAMI max pressure, the standard for all our longevity testing, he subjected them to rigorous firing sessions using our Universal Receiver setup, allowing for precise measurement of pressures and velocities with each shot. Over the course of multiple rounds, he fired each of the five casings 31 times without any signs of deterioration.
Undeterred, he continued the experiment, firing each casing an additional six times for a total of 32 firings. Even at this point, the casings remained in excellent condition, exhibiting no cracks or indications of head separation. With a slight expansion of the primer pockets, still within acceptable limits, the casings proved their remarkable durability.
To assess their accuracy after such extensive use, our ballistician took the casings to an outdoor range for a final test. Using a lighter load and a Tikka T-3 bolt action rifle with a 20-inch barrel, he achieved exceptional accuracy, grouping five shots into three tight holes at 100 yards, even amidst somewhat windy conditions.
While our experiment concluded after 32 firings, we extend an invitation to those with the time and inclination to push the limits further. If anyone undertakes the challenge of shooting a group of three Peterson .308s to failure, we eagerly await hearing about the outcome.
