Description
Peterson .300 Norma Magnum Brass – 50 Cases
Peterson .300 Norma Magnum brass is premium American-made Match-Grade brass designed for precision long-range and Extreme Long Range shooting. It combines consistent internal capacity and tightly controlled dimensions with a strong case head intended to retain primer-pocket integrity through repeated reloadings.
The .300 Norma Magnum is a rimless, bottleneck cartridge based on the .338 Norma Magnum case necked down for .308-calibre bullets. It should not be confused with the older .308 Norma Magnum.

These measurements demonstrate the approximate range found in recent production. They are reference values, not guaranteed specifications for every box. Reloading equipment and loads should always be configured using measurements taken from the actual lot being loaded.
Why choose Peterson .300 Norma Magnum brass?
Peterson developed its .300 Norma Magnum cases with a harder case head than many conventional cases. According to the manufacturer, the harder head improves resistance to primer-pocket expansion and can allow more reloading cycles when the brass is used within appropriate pressure limits.
Current production uses redesigned tooling. Peterson states that the external dimensions of its redesigned .300 Norma Magnum and .338 Norma Magnum cases now mirror those of Norma-manufactured brass while retaining Peterson’s harder case-head construction.
Other manufacturing advantages include:
- highly consistent internal capacity;
- strong case heads and webs;
- uniform neck-wall thickness;
- controlled factory annealing;
- consistent primer pockets and flash holes;
- precise neck and body concentricity;
- small-batch manufacturing;
- automated and manual inspection of every case;
- minimal preparation before first use.
The controlled dimensions and repeatable capacity help reduce variables between cartridges, which is particularly important when developing ammunition for long-range and ELR shooting.
Peterson development testing
During Peterson’s development programme, five test cases were each fired seven times under instrumented laboratory conditions. The primer pockets remained tight and no case deterioration or primer leakage was reported. The final test reached pressures far above the normal cartridge standard, with the cases becoming very tight in the chamber at the highest level.
This was destructive manufacturer testing, not reloading data. It must not be interpreted as permission to exceed published SAAMI or C.I.P. pressure limits.
Benefits reported by shooters
Shooters discussing Peterson .300 Norma Magnum brass commonly praise:
- greater perceived strength than softer Norma cases;
- good resistance to loose primer pockets;
- consistent case weight and neck dimensions;
- repeatable internal capacity;
- durable construction suitable for multiple reloadings;
- quality comparable with other premium brass manufacturers;
- competitive value compared with some imported alternatives;
- American manufacture;
- dependable performance in precision and ELR rifles.
A 2024 user comparison of ten Peterson and ten Lapua cases found both brands highly consistent. The Peterson sample averaged 303.9 gr in weight with a standard deviation of approximately 1.0 gr. Users have also noted that a light chamfer and deburr may be required before first loading.
Important chamber-fit information
Some discussions concerning early Peterson production from 2018–2019 reported cases measuring shorter at the shoulder than certain go gauges or fire-formed cases. Other shooters from the same period reported no unusual fit problems.
Peterson subsequently redesigned the tooling and states that current cases mirror Norma’s dimensions. Nevertheless, chamber fit and headspace should always be checked, particularly in custom rifles, older chambers or rifles cut with non-standard reamers.
Do not mix production lots during precision load development without first comparing case weight, internal capacity and shoulder position.
Preparation before first use
Peterson recommends only minimal preparation for its new brass:
- Inspect every case for shipping damage or dimensional irregularities.
- Measure case length and shoulder position.
- Confirm correct headspace and chamber fit.
- Check neck clearance with the intended loaded-cartridge dimensions.
- Apply a light inside and outside chamfer or deburr if required.
- Do not resize new brass unnecessarily unless measurements indicate that sizing is needed.
- When changing from another brass manufacturer, return to verified starting-load data and develop the load again.
Differences in internal capacity between manufacturers can significantly change pressure and velocity, even when the remaining components are unchanged.
